Number of players

4 field players, unless only 3 players are available. No team will play a man up at any time for U6. There are no goalkeepers in 4v4 soccer. There is no box rule and players may defend. Substitutes may occur at any dead ball situation, but players must get the referee's attention and enter and exit at the half-field mark only. Recommended: each player should play approximately 50% of the match.

Uniforms & equipment

All players must wear jerseys/shirts during play. All players must wear shin guards. Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play. Teams are responsible for providing game balls. Ball size: U6 = size 3.

Goals & goal box

No goal box in U6. Players may defend in front of the box with 1 defender to start play. It is understood that when the ball is near the goal all players may defend the goal.

Coaches on the field

Each team may have only 1 coach on the field. No coach by the goal. The coach must stand on the side of the field and not in the middle of the field while the ball is in play. The coach may set up the play while action is stopped and then return to the side of the field.

Game length

The game consists of four 11-minute quarters, separated by a two-minute water break at the quarters and a five-minute halftime. The game is 44 minutes long, but if both coaches agree they may shorten the match.

Goal scoring

Goals can be scored from anywhere on the offensive half of the field when the ball is in play. The ball must last be touched (by either offense or defense) within the attacking team's offensive half of the field. Goals may be scored directly from corner kicks or kick-offs. Goals may not be scored directly from kick-ins or indirect free kicks; the ball must be touched by any player for a goal to count in these situations.

Standings

3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.

Offsides & slide tackling

No offsides and no slide tackling in the U6 league.

Five-yard rule

In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defending player's goal area is closer than five yards, the ball is placed five yards from the goal area in line with the place of the penalty.

Kick-ins

The ball is kicked into play from the sideline (no throw-ins). The opposing team must move back 5 yards from the sideline.

Indirect kicks

All dead ball kicks (kick-ins, free kicks) are indirect kicks, which means the ball must be touched by any player before it enters the goal for a score.

Goal kicks

From six feet away from the goal on the goal line. The opposing team must move back 5 yards.

Kick-off

May be taken in any direction. You may score on a kick-off. There is a 5-yard circle rule.

Heading

No heading, per FYSA rules.

Benches & parents

Team benches are on the same side of the field. Parents may sit on either sideline but not behind the goal in U6 games. Parents must sit back 4 feet from the touch lines.

Sportsmanship

Players, coaches and spectators are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times. Abuse of the referees will not be tolerated. Any instance of such conduct will disqualify the responsible team from the event.

Trash

Each team is responsible for picking up trash in and around the bench and field after each match. Parents need to help pick up trash and keep the park clean!
